Livestock Development Corporation (LDC), is a Papua New Guinean state-owned entity established in 1983 through NEC Decision No. 75/82. It aims primarily to generate revenue for the government. After its establishment, Livestock development activities progressed far and wide throughout the length and breadth of our beautiful country.
Abattoirs and stockyards were built at different locations which in turn encouraged small holder farmers to flourish and took on the livestock production for domestic consumption and for selling at major shops in the urban centers. Total cattle number around then was around 150 000.
As time passed by with the changes in governments and management heads at the entity, the once striving entity dived nose first into a ramshackle until the Marape – Rosso Government came into the scene with the new Board and Mangement under the Stewardship of Mr. Terry Koim.
This organization is currently advancing its projects and programs funded by the PIP. To rehabilitate and enhance major cattle ranches and abattoirs across the country, LDC requires additional funding support in alignment with the MTDP III and AMDTP 2017-2027. Additionally, other small livestock species—including pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, apiculture, and inland fish farming—also need support through the Agriculture Intervention Support Program.
