Cattle being shipped across the Bismark sea headed to LDC Cattle Ranch – Launakalana in Rigo Central Province

Cattles for breeding ferried across the Bismark Sea from Siasi in Morobe to Launakalana LDC Cattle Ranch.

Once regarded as one of Papua New Guinea’s premier cattle stations, Launakalana Estate, situated in Rigo District of Central Province, continues to keep-up with its reputation.

In less than four years, the barren 4500 hectares of land is now home to more than 500 heads of cattle shipped across the Bismark sea from Sialum in Morobe Province.

This development progressed LDC’s vision for the estate to become the Centre-point for cattle breeding and distribution of cattle to support farmers in the province.

The first shipment of cattle in December 2022 marked a milestone achievement for LDC, as it fulfills the National Government’s MTDP IV directives including the National Cattle Breeding Program as well as revitalization and rehabilitation of infrastructure and assets.

Key activities underway in the Launakalana Cattle Ranch include fencing, paddock maintenance, water system upgrades, and weed control.

The outdated staff housing facilities will be replaced with a state of the art 12 units accommodation equivalent to top residential properties in the city that is under construction to accommodate Livestock Development Corporation Staff.
