The Ministerial Determination by the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea was published in the National Gazette No. G690 on 31st August 2022 in which it created the Ministry of Livestock and appointed the Honorable Sekie Agisa MP as the inaugural Minister for Livestock.

In doing so, the Prime Minister gave confidence to the Agriculture Sector especially those farmers who are involved in the Livestock sub-sector.  The determination places the Livestock Development Corporation as an entity that comes directly under the Ministry of Livestock.  This creation separated Livestock from the name of the then Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) to now known as the Department of Agriculture (DOA) and placed under the Ministry of Agriculture. 

The Prime Minister issued this Ministerial determination under Section 148 of the Constitution. 

Under this determination, the Minister for Livestock is responsible for providing oversight and political leadership to Livestock Development Corporation and the Veterinary Surgeon Board, and all policy and regulatory matters relating to the livestock industry in PNG.
