Post Entry Quarantine Facilities
Post-Entry Quarantine (PEQ) facilities are developed to safeguard importation of livestock from overseas. The Livestock Development Corporation (LDC), in partnership with the National Agriculture Quarantine Inspection Authority (NAQIA), is leading an initiative by constructing PEQs in selected maritime Provinces endorsed by the National Executive Council (NEC).
The project is also being supported through collaboration between the PNG Government – via the Minister for Livestock and the Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries from the Australian Government. This partnership is a result of the interest from LDC to import live cattle from Australian cattle farmers. The Chairman of the Australian Livestock Exporters Council (ALEC) then visited PNG in November 2024.
The NEC has approved four PEQ sites nationwide. LDC has already completed one facility in Port Moresby, while construction of the second is planned for Wewak in East Sepik Province, with two additional sites to follow in other designated provinces. These PEQs will play a crucial role in expanding the country’s livestock industry safely and sustainably.
